Outreach

"Outreach" is the central core of our Resilience and Adaptation Program, in terms of reaching out to other disciplines and communicating with other cultures (the indigenous communities, agencies, and business). In addition to the aspects of student training that we have described above, our program provides educational opportunities to other graduate students not formally enrolled in the program (e.g., DANRD MS students), upper-level undergraduates, and faculty through their participation in courses and seminars. Students frequently organize research in partnership with local communities and other organizations. The direct involvement of indigenous communities members and representatives of agencies and business in our program provide a mechanism to convey our approach to these groups. We will look for opportunities for workshops and for discussions with legislators and policy makers about the our integrated approach to Alaskan problems that will be the focus of the graduate seminar.
